Bakrie University Informatics Study Program Lecturer Becomes Speaker at Gsdc 2026
Jakarta – Lecturer and Head of the Informatics Study Program at Bakrie University, Ir. Iwan Adhicandra, Ph.D., SMIEEE, was one of the speakers at the 2026 Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) organized by Times Higher Education (THE) on 22–25 June 2026 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang. GSDC is an international forum that brings together leaders from universities, government, industry and global organizations to accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On this occasion, Dr. Iwan was a panelist in the session "Harnessing the Power of AI to Assess and Mitigate the Impact of Climate Change." This session discusses how artificial intelligence (AI) can be utilized to understand, predict and reduce the impact of climate change through data analysis, climate modeling and technology-based decision making.
In the discussion, Dr. Iwan highlighted that AI has opened up new opportunities in supporting climate action, starting from real-time monitoring of environmental conditions, predicting extreme weather, optimizing energy use, to developing smart agriculture. According to him, the use of AI must be directed not only at increasing efficiency, but also at providing real benefits for society.
"AI has great potential to help overcome the challenges of climate change. However, its successful implementation depends on collaboration between academia, government, industry and society, as well as the application of AI principles that are ethical, transparent and inclusive," he said.
The discussion also emphasized the importance of shifting approaches from simply responding to the impacts of climate change to building proactive and sustainable solutions. Apart from technological development, good AI governance, access to quality data, and increased human resource capacity are needed so that the benefits of AI can be felt equally, including by developing countries.
Dr. Iwan as a speaker at GSDC 2026 is recognition of the contribution of Bakrie University academics in developing research and innovation in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and digital technology to support sustainable development. This participation also opens up opportunities for international collaboration in developing AI-based solutions that have a positive impact on society.
Through its presence at this global forum, the Bakrie University Informatics Study Program further strengthens its commitment to producing education, research and innovation that is relevant to global challenges, while supporting the achievement of the SDGs through the responsible use of technology.
